APT Centres

'A Place to Talk'

Back in September 2000 we launched our first APT Centre in Haverhill as a pilot scheme.  It was a huge success.  Although we found linked volunteer befrienders for many of the people with learning disabilities on our books, the sad truth is that it can sometimes take a while to find the right person to make a link.

The APT Centre provides those people waiting for a friend with somewhere to go on a weekly basis.  People can join in the many different leisure activities on offer each week, workshops on different topics, gain computer skills or seek advice on a problem and make new friends.  APT is run by a staff member with a number of volunteers who help with the activities and refreshments, chat to people or just listen.

Since opening our first APT Centre we have been able to open other APTs in Sudbury, Bury St. Edmunds, Ipswich, Lowestoft and Stowmarket, all of which are well attended.  Our Saxmundham Apt Group is now open all day!
